In FY2023, SAKI awarded the Anoka County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) $1.15 million to further investigate cold cases outside of the original scope of its SAKI work, including unsolved homicides, non-SAKI sexual assaults, missing persons, robberies, violent burglaries, and terroristic threats. ACSO will (1) complete a full inventory of all violent crime cold cases in its records, (2) develop cold case investigation protocols and procedures, (3) evaluate and assign priority levels to all cold cases, evaluate evidence and test or re-test it to further investigations, (4) hold offenders accountable, and (5) maintain a multidisciplinary team to assist cold case investigations and support victims and their families.
