Image of Grantee title

SAKI awarded the Harris County District Attorney's Office $2,499,158 in FY2024. They will utilize this funding to improve investigations and prosecutions in connection with evidence and cases resulting from the sexual assault kit testing process, as well as other sexually motivated cold case crimes including homicides. Additionally, they plan to utilize advanced DNA methodologies to thoroughly test sexual assault kits and fully leverage all available CODIS hits; investigate and prosecute the leads resulting from advanced DNA methodologies in an evidence-based, victim-centered manner; and document, assess, and disseminate "lessons learned" to inform practices locally and nationally. The team will utilize an experienced team to investigate and prosecute sexual assaults, document, and disseminate the process and outcomes via data collection, presentations, Violent Criminal Apprehension Program entries, and trainings; and enhancing competencies and capabilities through cross-disciplinary training.
