In FY2023, SAKI awarded the Office of the Ocean County Prosecutor $500,000 to assist with solving 29 cold case homicides believed to be sexually motivated and identifying large numbers of unidentified human remains, many of which are believed, based on evidence or investigative findings, to come from similar homicides. Funds will also be used to support and enhance victim services, as well as for training and overtime costs. Detectives from the Office of the Ocean County Prosecutor Major Crime Unit will lead this project and partner with the Cold Case Regional Task Force, New Jersey State Police Office of Forensic Sciences, the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, and the New Jersey State Police Cold Case Unit.

Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance, the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative aims to create a coordinated community response that ensures just resolution to sexual assault cases. Through this program, funding is provided to support multidisciplinary community response teams engaged in the comprehensive reform of jurisdictions approaches to sexual assault cases resulting from evidence found in previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits.
